You didn't get this far by accident.

You've already put in the work — flight hours, theory, your ICAO English Level 4.

But the HR interview is a different kind of test. It's not technical. It's not about what you know — it's about whether you can communicate it clearly, naturally, and confidently, in real time, with someone watching for exactly the moments you hesitate, ramble, or sound like you're reciting an answer you memorised last night.

Most candidates prepare for WHAT to say. Almost none prepare for HOW they're actually being heard.

That gap — between knowing the right answer and sounding like a Level 5 speaker while you say it — is where you win or fail the HR interview.

Built by an Aviation English specialist who does this every day

Cleared For Interview was built by Rachel Shieff, an Aviation English specialist who works with pilots every day on exactly this transition: Level 4 to Level 5 — technically competent to fluent under pressure. This isn't a generic interview guide. Every question is paired with:

01

What HR is actually listening for

Not the CV recap they've already read, but the specific thing that gets a candidate redirected mid-answer.

02

The Level 4 → 5 language marker

The exact grammar and fluency pattern that separates a pass from a fail on that specific question type.

03

An answer framework, not a script

HR is trained to spot rehearsed, word-perfect answers. Frameworks force you to build a real answer, live, every time you practise.

What's inside

  • 18 real interview questions

Across 5 themed sections — Motivation, Cathay & Industry Knowledge, Resilience & Teamwork, Situational, and Closing

  • A full audio practice companion

Every question voiced by Carmen, our AI “Cathay HR Interviewer,” so you rehearse out loud, not just on paper.

  • A guided practice routine

Cold attempt, timed response, language check, re-record — the same method used in live coaching.

  • A Level 4 → 5 language checklist

Use it after every recorded practice answer to self-assess exactly where you are.

  • Three full mock interview run-throughs

Bonus tracks: randomised order, 60-second response windows, no visible script — as close to the real thing as self-practice gets.

What buyers are saying

These are results from candidates I coached 1:1 — the same framework is now in the toolkit

“Hello Rachel, updating you that I passed my initial HR round last week. Thank you for all the help you've given me.”

— Aarav

“I got my final interview. I forgot to update you. Ur feedback was definitely amazing. With all ur experience, u knew exactly where I should have my focus on and what to emphasize.”

– Clive

“Hi Rachel, I passed it! Now waiting for the date for final interview.”

“Thank you for your valued feedbacks from our mock interview. I have been working on the aspects you mentioned and passed the HR interview. I have been referring friends to you, ha ha.”

– Irwin

Why this, and not a generic interview guide

Generic interview prep assumes that you know the English. Generic English courses treat interviews as a different subject. Neither addresses the actual thing being tested in your HR interview: can you think and speak clearly, in English, under mild social pressure, without a script?

This toolkit was built to teach you exactly that — by Rachel Shieff, who coaches Aviation English for a living, not someone who coaches “interviews in general”.

4 important points

Is this a script I should memorise?

No — and you shouldn't try. Cathay's interviewers are trained to notice rehearsed answers. This toolkit gives you frameworks and language markers so you build genuine, spontaneous answers every time you practise, which is exactly what's being assessed.

I'm not confident in my English yet — is this still for me?

This toolkit is built for pilots who already hold ICAO Level 4 and want to sound like a confident Level 5 speaker under interview pressure. If you're still working toward Level 4, The ICAO English Fast Start Course may be a better starting point.

How does the audio work?

Every question has a matching audio track voiced by Carmen, an AI “Cathay HR Interviewer”. You play the track, answer out loud, and use the built-in pause to time yourself — full instructions are included on page 1.
